Support

How can we help?

A real person reads every message. We usually reply within one business day.

If someone may be in danger right now, call 911. Upwild is not a rescue service and can't dispatch help. Our support line is not monitored for emergencies.

Trip plans and alerts

How do overdue alerts work?

  1. You send a plan. Your watchers get it by text, with a link that opens on any phone.
  2. Upwild's server keeps the time, not your phone. A dead battery or no signal can't stop the alert.
  3. At your alert time, if you haven't ended the trip, Upwild asks you "Are you back?" You have 10 minutes to answer.
  4. If you don't, your watchers are texted a link with your plan, your last known location and what to do.

My watcher didn't get my plan.

I'm running late on the trail.

Tap Extend 30 min on the live trip. Your back-by and alert times move, and your watchers' page updates. You can extend more than once.

I'm back but forgot to end my trip.

Open Upwild and tap I'm off the trail. Your watchers get a back-safe text, even if they were already alerted.

My plans changed before I left.

Tap Cancel plan on the Home tab. Your watchers get one text saying the trip is off.

iPhone settings

Location

Upwild uses your location only during a live trip. To record it with your screen off, go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Upwild and choose Always. If you don't, check-ins still work without location.

Apple Health

Plus reads hiking workouts to work out your climb rate. This happens on your iPhone and is never uploaded. To change access, go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › Upwild.

Notifications

Keep notifications on so you see the turnaround reminder and the "Are you back?" check. Go to Settings › Notifications › Upwild.
